The word “natural” is often used by companies to imply many positive things about their products.  In the broadest sense, all things on our planet could be called natural because they are derived from the natural materials found on the earth.  However, the word “natural” as we at NRT use it refers to biological extracts that, in this case, are produced naturally in a pristine marine environment.

So “natural” refers to the fact that the active ingredients in NRT products are not synthesized compounds produced by bio or chemical engineering.  Rather, they are antibacterial and anti-inflamatory biological compounds that marine organisms produce in order to survive and flourish in their competitive environments.

Shortly after the tragic death of his youngest son, Dr. Kelly developed a severe case of Rosacea.  As a physician, he immediately sought care from his colleagues and was prescribed the standard treatment of tetracycline.  This powerful antibiotic worked quickly to clear up the outbreak.  Oral antibiotics, however, act on a person’s entire system and have significant negative health effects if used continuously; so when Dr. Kelly discontinued taking the tetracycline, the red swollen skin, bumps and pustules returned.  He started another round of tetracycline and immediately suffered a severe allergic reaction to the antibiotic.  He was then prescribed antibiotic cream that worked for a period of time and then became ineffective in treating the flare-ups.

After pharmaceutical treatments failed, Dr. Kelly embarked on a research project that required over five years of work and cost more than one million dollars.  His research required him to test the activity of hundreds of naturally occurring marine antibiotic and anti-inflammatory agents, so he built a state-of-the-art analytical lab and began collecting and purifying extracts from marine organisms all over the world.  The most active of these agents have been incorporated into two products that often completely eliminate the symptoms of rosacea.
