What does “Natural” mean?

The word “natural” is often used by companies to imply many positive things about their products.  In the broadest sense, all things on our planet could be called natural because they are derived from the natural materials found on the earth.  However, the word “natural” as we at NRT use it refers to biological extracts that, in this case, are produced naturally in a pristine marine environment.

So “natural” refers to the fact that the active ingredients in NRT products are not synthesized compounds produced by bio or chemical engineering.  Rather, they are antibacterial and anti-inflamatory biological compounds that marine organisms produce in order to survive and flourish in their competitive environments.

This raises another question, if a compound is naturally produced by organisms in an undisturbed environment, is it necessarily beneficial?  The answer is obviously no.  No one would suggest that extracts from poison oak or ivy be added to a skin treatment, even though they are completely natural biological extracts.  So being “natural” is certainly not enough to justify an ingredient’s inclusion in a therapeutic product.  Careful analysis of a natural material’s attributes, both good and bad, must be done prior to considering it as a remedy or treatment.  Strangely, this is a step that is often skipped by producers of natural health related products.  This is why we hear announcements almost daily of widely used natural remedies being shown to be completely ineffective, and sometimes detrimental, when subjected to good scientific analysis.

The active ingredients in NRT products are not only natural, but are the result of collecting and analyzing thousands of marine samples.  Only active agents that showed real benefit without negative side effects have been added to Natural Rosacea Treatment.  The result is a natural treatment for a painful and disfiguring disease, that also promotes healthy and beautiful skin.
